We successfully held our 27th Annual General Meeting (AGM)online, bringing together members, partners, stakeholders, and Government representatives to review progress and reaffirm their commitment to advancing palliative care in Uganda. Due to the Ebola outbreak, the meeting was unexpectedly transitioned to a virtual format. It started with an inspiring keynote by Ms. Tracy Ahumuza, Founder of @ATTABreastmilk, who shared reflections on building compassionate communities through maternal and newborn care.
Members approved the establishment of a PCAU Social Enterprise to strengthen the Association’s long-term sustainability and reappointed the Association’s financial auditors for the 2026 financial year.
The meeting also celebrated excellence in palliative care. The Southwestern Branch received the Best Performing Branch Award, while the Taibah International School Palliative Care Club was honoured with the Merit Award for its outstanding contribution to promoting compassionate communities.
Representing the Director General Health Services, Dr. Ronald Bahatungire, Acting Commissioner for Clinical Services at the Ministry of Health, reaffirmed Government’s commitment to ensuring palliative care services are accessible, available, and affordable for all Ugandans.
PCAU Board Chairperson Dr. Nixon Niyonzima and Executive Director Mr. Mark Mwesiga called for continued collaboration among members, partners, and Government to strengthen education, advocacy, research, and implementation of the National Strategy for Palliative Care, advancing the shared vision of Palliative Care for All in Uganda.
