The Palliative Care Association of Uganda (PCAU) is nurturing a growing movement of compassion that is transforming schools, health facilities, and communities across the country. By empowering individuals and families to take an active role in health and social care, PCAU is building a culture where dignity and support are shared values.
In 2025, over 575 students joined school-based palliative care clubs, and more than 1,000 community members were reached through awareness activities. Today, the Compassionate Community program has expanded to seven schools in Wakiso, Hoima, and Bushenyi, where young people are turning knowledge into action, fundraising, supporting older persons, distributing supplies, and creating IEC materials to strengthen care in their communities.
This year, PCAU is enrolling two more schools and entering new districts, further extending the reach of this initiative. Strategic partnerships with Ishaka Adventist Hospital, Lweza Community Health Program, and Little Hospice Hoima are ensuring that care flows beyond schools into homes, health facilities, and entire communities.
