PCAU School Compassionate Communities Programme -School Kindness Month with Taibah International School Palliative Care Club

In early November, the Palliative Care Association of Uganda (PCAU), through its School Compassionate Communities Programme with the Taibah International School Palliative Care Club concluded the Club’s Kindness Month activities. This initiative showcased how PCAU empowers young people to put compassion into action, supporting individuals and families facing serious health challenges.

Through PCAU’s mentorship, the students carried out two impactful outreach visits to the Uganda Cancer Institute (UCI) Children’s Ward and to Kawempe Home Care. At UCI, they donated essential items to children undergoing cancer treatment, offering comfort and encouragement to both the young patients and their families. At Kawempe Home Care, the students went even further by donating  basic needs items as PCAU donated a tent to support shelter needs at the New Hope Hostel, a space dedicated to vulnerable patients and caregivers.

These meaningful acts reflected the true spirit of palliative care empathy expressed through practical support, shared humanity, and hope even in challenging moments. Through guidance from PCAU, students are learning that compassion is not only a value but a responsibility, and their warm conversations, smiles, and gifts affirm dignity and care where it is most needed.

PCAU continues to build compassionate future leaders through the School Palliative Care Programme, now active in five schools. By nurturing emotional intelligence, kindness, and social responsibility, the programme equips young people to ease suffering within their communities and view service as both a privilege and a calling.

We extend sincere appreciation to the administration, teachers, and students of Taibah International School for embracing and practicing the compassionate values that PCAU promotes. Your dedication shows that kindness has no age limit and that young people are essential in building caring communities.
