A team from the Palliative Care Association of Uganda (PCAU) participated in a Capacity Strengthening Workshop in Kabale alongside fellow members of the HelpAge Advocacy Network Uganda (HANU), where PCAU is a founding member.
The workshop brought together civil society organizations committed to advancing the wellbeing and rights of older persons in Uganda. It provided valuable sessions focused on organizational capacity building, peer learning, and strengthening collaboration. Participants shared experiences, explored best practices, and identified opportunities for collective advocacy to better serve older persons across the country.
As part of the engagement, the PCAU team conducted a community outreach with a group of older persons near the Katuna border. This interaction offered firsthand insight into the lived experiences, vulnerabilities, and unique challenges faced by older people in border communities, further informing PCAU’s advocacy and programmatic priorities.
The visit also created an opportunity to engage with a PCAU member organization, Kabale Christian Care. Discussions with the Chairperson of the Southwestern Branch focused on strategies to enhance branch activities, strengthen member engagement, and improve coordination at the regional level.
In addition, the team visited Reach One Touch One Ministries in Muhanga, a health facility and fellow founding member of HANU. The visit provided an opportunity to learn from their work with older persons and to explore areas for deeper collaboration in service delivery and advocacy.
Overall, the workshop and exposure visit strengthened partnerships, enhanced shared learning, and reaffirmed PCAU’s commitment to working closely with its members and partners. These efforts are critical in advancing integrated care and sustained advocacy to improve the quality of life for older persons across Uganda.
