At the end of every three months, PCAU brings together professionals from across Uganda to learn, share, and strengthen their ability to deliver patient-centered palliative care. These national update meetings are more than just forums; they are spaces where knowledge becomes action, and collaboration translates into better care for patients and families.
At the latest gathering on 27th February 2026, oncology and palliative care specialists led a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) session on the early detection and management of childhood cancers. Guided by the NCCN adapted guidelines for Sub-Saharan Africa, participants gained practical insights into warning signs, diagnostic approaches, referral pathways, and treatment options tailored to resource-constrained settings.
The session drew a strong turnout, with 115 participants online and over 200 attending in person across PCAU regional branches. Presentations highlighted the clinical presentation, diagnosis, treatment, and referral of children with suspected or confirmed cancer, while underscoring the importance of holistic pediatric palliative care, including pain and symptom management, to improve quality of life for young patients and their families. Our gratitude goes to our partners and supporters for committing ourselves to attending our update meetings. PCAU continues to nurture a community of care where knowledge is shared, skills are strengthened, and lives are touched with compassion.
