We run a child-care givers program (Road to Hope), and at the beginning of the year, we held a three-day camp for learning, connection, and personal growth. The Camp was held from 27th to 30th January 2026 in Kampala and brought together 39 children.
These are child caregivers whose parents live with life-threatening illnesses or have lost parental support. Overall, we have supported over 100 child caregivers. The program supports children’s access to education, psychosocial care, and basic needs. The annual camp, where age and peer-related groups gather centrally in one location, is a key highlight of the program. The camp offers a safe and empowering space where children can interact, share experiences, and build resilience. This year’s camp focused on strengthening the children’s confidence, self-awareness, and social skills through a variety of engaging activities. Participants took part in team-building exercises, talent shows, sports, and peer appreciation sessions that encouraged self-expression and fostered a sense of belonging.
The camp also provided important learning opportunities. Interactive sessions on sexual and reproductive health and rights. We offered career guidance sessions and mentorship, and identified points of need that will require future follow-up with each child.
The 2026 RTH Annual Camp once again demonstrated the power of community, mentorship, and compassion in transforming young lives. As these children continue their journeys, they carry with them renewed confidence, stronger connections, and hope for a brighter future.
Today, the RTH program reaches over 120 child caregivers across 32 districts in Uganda, empowering them with education, skills, and holistic support to break the cycle of hardship and build brighter futures.
Be the Reason a Child Finds Hope; Every child deserves a future filled with dignity, opportunity, and hope. Yet, for many orphaned and vulnerable children in Uganda, that future is uncertain, burdened by caregiving responsibilities, poverty, and emotional distress.
The Road to Hope (RTH) Program is changing that story to one child, one family, one community at a time. But we cannot do it alone.
